For the period 2000 – 2006 the Tees Valley was designated an Objective 2 area, i.e. an area needing support to adjust to economic and social change.

The two European funds in the North East Objective 2 Programme were:

  • ERDF – European Regional Development Fund

This funded capital and revenue types of investment in physical regeneration.

  • ESF – European Social Fund

This provided a wide range of support for assisting Target Community residents along a pathway to training and ultimately employment.

For the purpose of this Programme these funds had to be committed by 2006 and spent by 2008.  It is unlikely that any more ERDF or ESF funds will be available in the 2000 – 2006 Programme for new projects.
